The United States has deployed a third major naval force to the Middle East, carrying combat aircraft and thousands of troops, as President Donald Trump warns that further military action against Iran remains possible.
The latest deployment represents a significant expansion of the US military presence in the region and comes as tensions between Washington and Tehran continue to intensify.
The force heading towards the Middle East includes more than 7,000 US sailors and approximately 2,000 Marines, adding substantial military capability to American forces already stationed in the region.
At the centre of the deployment is the USS Theodore Roosevelt carrier strike group, alongside the USS Makin Island, which is part of an amphibious assault group involving two amphibious ships.
A US official, speaking on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of military operational information, said the latest deployment could result in three US aircraft carriers being present in the region by the end of October.
If that happens, the total number of US sailors and Marines in the Middle East could rise above 20,000, supported by hundreds of military aircraft.
Trump Warns of Further Military Action
The deployment comes as President Donald Trump continues to warn that the United States could take further military action against Iran.
Trump has indicated that intensifying attacks after the US midterm elections remains among the options available to his administration, despite earlier assurances that the conflict would last only a few weeks.
The latest developments have raised questions about the scale and duration of the US military campaign and whether the growing deployment could lead to a broader confrontation between Washington and Tehran.
A Growing US Naval Presence
The US Navy has repeatedly increased its military presence in the Middle East during periods of heightened tensions with Iran.
In April this year, the Navy deployed three carrier strike groups to the Middle East simultaneously, marking the first time such a deployment had taken place since 2003.
The latest movement of naval forces adds to an already substantial American military presence in the region and highlights how quickly the strategic situation surrounding the conflict is changing.
With additional ships, aircraft and thousands of personnel moving towards the Middle East, attention is now focused on Washington's next steps and how Tehran may respond to the growing US military presence.
