The Complete History of Céline Dion: From Birth to 2026

Céline Marie Claudette Dion is a famous Canadian singer who has become one of the most recognizable voices in the history of world music. She was born on March 30, 1968, in Charlemagne, Québec, Canada. She was the youngest and the 14th child of Thérèse Tanguay Dion and Adhémar Dion.

She grew up in a family with a strong passion for music. From an early age, her family noticed the strength and uniqueness of her voice. When she was 12 years old, she wrote her first song with the help of her mother and her brother Jacques. Her mother sent a recording of the song to music manager René Angélil, who later became her manager.

In 1982, at the age of 14, Céline won the gold medal at the Yamaha World Popular Song Festival in Tokyo. In 1988, she represented Switzerland at the Eurovision Song Contest, where she won with the song “Ne partez pas sans moi.”

In 1990, she entered the American music market with her first English-language album, Unison. She later achieved major success with “Beauty and the Beast” in 1992, performed with Peabo Bryson. The song won both a Grammy Award and an Oscar.

In 1994, she married René Angélil in Montréal. They later had three sons: René-Charles, Eddy, and Nelson.

The year 1997 became one of the biggest years of her career after she recorded “My Heart Will Go On,” the theme song from the movie Titanic. The song became a worldwide success and won both an Oscar and a Grammy Award. It further established Céline Dion as one of the world's leading singers.

From 2003 to 2007, she performed in a major Las Vegas residency called A New Day… After that, she continued to achieve success in music and live entertainment.

In 2016, her husband and manager, René Angélil, died after battling cancer. Two days later, her brother Daniel Dion also died. Despite these painful losses, Céline returned to the stage.

In 2019, she released the album Courage and began the Courage World Tour. However, the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted much of the tour in 2020.

In 2022, Céline announced that she had been diagnosed with Stiff-Person Syndrome, a neurological disorder that can cause severe muscle stiffness and spasms. Because of the condition, some of her performances were postponed and later canceled.

In 2023, she appeared in the movie Love Again, where she played herself. In 2024, the documentary I Am: Celine Dion was released, showing aspects of her life, career, and experience living with her health condition.

On July 26, 2024, Céline delivered a major performance at the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympics, where she performed “Hymne à l’amour” from the Eiffel Tower.

In 2025, she celebrated the 35th anniversary of the release of Unison, her first English-language album.

In 2026, Céline announced her return to the stage in Paris. She released new songs, including “Dansons” and “Bonjour, Pardon, Merci.” In September 2026, she began her Paris concert series, marking her return to full live concerts after a long period away from the stage.

From a small town in Québec to becoming one of the world's most famous singers, the story of Céline Dion is a story of hard work, music, success, family, and perseverance. Her journey also reflects her determination to return to the stage despite the challenges she has faced throughout her life.
